The Jeddah to Kuwait route: distance, crossing and transit time

The distance from Jeddah to Kuwait City is about 1,380 km, roughly 14 hours of driving. The truck heads north on the Madinah road and through Al Qassim, then to Hafar Al-Batin and the Al-Raqai crossing, facing the Kuwaiti Al-Salmi post, then Jahra and Kuwait City.

Because the trip crosses the Kingdom from west to north-east, Jeddah shared loads often join trucks carrying Qassim and Riyadh shipments to Kuwait and share the road cost.

Mode Approx. time Best for Starts from
Shared road load 5 – 6 days A room, single items, cartons SAR 45
Dedicated truck 4 – 5 days Full household moves, commercial cargo Depends on truck
Enclosed car carrier 4 – 6 days Cars SAR 2,035
Air 1 – 2 days Documents and urgent parcels By weight
Sea via Dammam 12 – 18 days Commercial containers Per container

Times start on the collection day and include routine border procedures.

What happens at Al-Raqai and Al-Salmi?

Stop Procedure
Al-Raqai (Saudi Arabia) The Fasah export declaration is matched against the load and exit is stamped
Al-Salmi (Kuwait) Kuwaiti customs review the packing list, value and receiver details
Inspection X-ray of the truck or random opening of a few cartons
Release The road continues to Jahra and Kuwait City

A Jeddah truck reaches Al-Raqai after a day on the road, so we time its arrival for quieter hours and file the Fasah export declaration before leaving Jeddah, so no waiting hours are added to a long trip.

The trip day by day

Stage Time
Collection, dismantling, packing and loading 1 – 2 days
Jeddah to Al-Raqai about one day
Al-Raqai and Al-Salmi hours to one day
Al-Salmi to Kuwait City about 1.5 hours
Delivery and reassembly 1 – 2 days
To shorten transit: have the receiver’s Kuwaiti civil ID or passport and Kuwaiti phone number ready before loading; incomplete receiver details are the most common reason shipments are held at Al-Salmi.

Shipping prices from Jeddah to Kuwait

We price furniture by cubic metre because a truck fills by volume before weight. Prices include dismantling, packing, loading, transport, delivery and reassembly at destination. The price is confirmed after you send photos of the rooms or after a survey, and does not change after loading as long as the items match the list.

Household move prices by size

Master bedroom 10 – 14 m³ SAR 2,160

Furniture moving from Jeddah to Kuwait

Moving a home from Jeddah to Kuwait means crossing the whole Kingdom before the border, so packing gets double attention. The carpenter dismantles and numbers kitchens, wardrobes and beds, packers wrap each piece in layers suited to its material with extra protection against coastal humidity, heavy pieces go low in the truck with straps and separating boards, and straps are checked at the Riyadh stop.

Furniture being packed in Jeddah for Kuwait
Layered packing suited to each material before loading.

Dismantling by carpenters

Large wardrobes, bedrooms and kitchens are dismantled by carpenters who know the assembly order, not just by movers. Every panel is numbered, and screws and hinges go into numbered bags tied to the piece itself, so the wardrobe goes back together in your new home exactly as it was, with no missing parts or new holes.

Packing guide by material

Wood and lacquer

Moving blanket, then bubble wrap, then cardboard edges.

Majlis and carpets

Numbered bags for cushions; carpets rolled on a core.

Marble and glass

Wooden crates lined with foam.

Appliances

Fridge switched off 6 hours earlier; washer drum locked.

TVs

Double cartons or a dedicated box.

Clothes

Wardrobe cartons that keep clothes hanging.

When is a wooden crate needed?

Standard packing is enough for most furniture, but marble tops, large mirrors, chandeliers, antiques and valuable equipment need a crate built to size, because pressure in the truck or vibration on the road can break them even when well wrapped. We identify these pieces during the survey and price their crates in advance.

Air conditioners and kitchens

A split AC is removed after the gas is pumped down into the outdoor unit, and the pipes are sealed against moisture; it is reinstalled at destination and recharged if needed. Kitchens are photographed before dismantling, cabinets are numbered right to left, and the new kitchen space is measured first, because custom kitchens may not fit without adjustment.

Areas we collect from in Jeddah

Every district of Jeddah: the north such as Obhur, Ash Shati, Al Mohammadiyah and An Naeem; the centre such as Ar Rawdah, As Safa and As Salamah; the south such as Al Hamdaniyah, As Samer and Al Ajwad; plus Makkah, Taif and Rabigh. Shipments are consolidated in Jeddah before departure.

Dedicated truck or shared load?

Comparison Dedicated truck Shared load
Transit 4 – 5 days 5 – 6 days
Cost Fixed per truck By your volume
Best for A full house or villa A room, items or cartons

Homes above roughly 25 cubic metres are usually cheaper with a dedicated truck; a room, a few items or cartons are cheaper in a shared load that splits the road cost.

Car shipping from Jeddah to Kuwait

Cars are moved from Jeddah to Kuwait on enclosed carriers with full covers and wheel straps, arriving in 4 – 6 days. We document the car’s condition with photos and the odometer reading at collection, and the receiver signs the condition report on delivery.

Covered car on an enclosed carrier in Jeddah for Kuwait
An enclosed carrier protects the car all the way to Kuwait City.
  • Price: a small car starts from SAR 2,035; the price varies by type, size and delivery city
  • Documents: registration (istimara), owner’s ID, authorisation if shipped by someone else, and the export procedure
  • Registration: according to Kuwaiti traffic and customs requirements

See our car shipping guide from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait for inspection and registration after arrival.

Cartons, gifts and dates

Clothes cartons, gifts and Madinah dates and Hijaz gifts travel in the shared load; a standard carton starts from SAR 45. Write the receiver’s name and Kuwaiti number on every carton, keep liquids apart from clothes, and do not overfill cartons so they do not burst when stacked. Commercial quantities of dates need an invoice and a certificate of origin.

Electrical appliances

Kuwait mains voltage is 240 V and sockets are the British type, so appliances from Saudi Arabia usually work with a simple plug adapter. TVs travel in double cartons and removable batteries are taken out.

Commercial shipping from Jeddah to Kuwait

We serve Jeddah traders and its industrial city with full or part loads to Shuwaikh Industrial, Al Rai and Sulaibiya, and arrange container sea freight from Jeddah port when needed. GCC-origin goods are treated under the GCC customs union rules with a certificate of origin; other goods are subject to the applicable customs duties. Documents: commercial invoice, commercial registration, certificate of origin, packing list and a Fasah export declaration.

We review the item list before loading, because a commercial truck held at Al-Salmi over one item that needs prior approval is delayed in full and may incur waiting charges.

Air freight from Jeddah to Kuwait

Documents and urgent parcels fly from King Abdulaziz International Airport to Kuwait International Airport in one to two days, the best option for urgent items over this long distance. Sea freight from Jeddah sails around the peninsula and takes 12 – 18 days, so it only suits commercial containers.

Comparison Road Air Sea
Time 4 – 6 days 1 – 2 days 12 – 18 days
Cost Cheapest for household goods Highest For containers
Best for Furniture and cars Documents and urgent items Traders

Air freight is charged by actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, so it suits small, relatively heavy parcels such as documents, permitted personal medicines and small devices, not furniture.

Documents required for shipping from Jeddah to Kuwait

Documents and packing list for a Jeddah to Kuwait shipment
A detailed packing list shortens procedures at Al-Salmi.
  1. Sender: national ID or iqama
  2. Receiver: Kuwaiti civil ID or passport and a Kuwaiti phone number
  3. Packing list: one clear line per carton and item
  4. Value declaration: realistic, not understated
  5. Export declaration: via the Fasah platform
  6. Traders: invoice, commercial registration and certificate of origin

A vague description such as “household items” invites a full inspection, while a detailed list with carton numbers lets any random check finish in minutes. More in our guide to the Kuwait border crossings.

What cannot be shipped to Kuwait

Prohibited

fuel, gas and paints, gas cylinders even when empty, pesticides and chemicals, perishables, weapons and replicas, damaged batteries.

Restricted

commercial quantities of medicines, unapproved wireless devices, plants and animals, non-compliant printed material.

Carry with you

cash, gold, jewellery and original documents.

We go through the list with you before loading; details in prohibited and restricted cargo for Kuwait.

Steps to ship from Jeddah to Kuwait

  1. Send photos: on WhatsApp 0561247112
  2. Get the price: by volume and delivery city
  3. Pick a date: for collection
  4. Dismantling and packing: at your home
  5. Departure: north via Madinah and Al Qassim
  6. Crossing: Al-Raqai then Al-Salmi
  7. Delivery: and reassembly in Kuwait

What happens when your shipment reaches Kuwait?

After release at Al-Salmi the road continues to Jahra and Kuwait City, and the supervisor calls the receiver to confirm the time and address. Residential towers in Salmiya, Sharq and Mahboula usually need building management approval and a lift booking, so arrange both before arrival. The furniture is then unloaded, the carpenter reassembles wardrobes, beds and the kitchen, ACs are installed, every piece is checked in front of you and the delivery report is signed.

Delivering a Jeddah shipment in Kuwait
Delivery and reassembly across Kuwait.
City Time from Jeddah
Jahra 4 – 5 days
Capital and Hawalli 4 – 6 days
Farwaniya and Mubarak Al-Kabeer 4 – 6 days
Ahmadi 5 – 6 days

Temporary storage

If your home in Kuwait is not ready yet, we store your belongings in a closed warehouse in Jeddah on contracts starting from one month, then ship them on the date you choose.

What you may pay in Kuwait besides the shipping price

  • Customs duties: on non-GCC-origin goods and commercial quantities
  • Waiting charges: if documents are delayed at Al-Salmi
  • Building approval: in some residential towers
  • Insurance: optional, as a percentage of value

Used personal furniture is usually treated as personal effects, and before booking we explain anything that may be due on your shipment so nothing comes as a surprise on arrival.

How the cost is calculated

Start with the room volumes from the price table, add extra items and cartons, then any wooden crates. If the total exceeds the price of a dedicated truck, ask for one instead of the shared load.

Example: a two-bedroom apartment in As Safa of about 20 m³ to Hawalli: from SAR 3,910. A master bedroom, a fridge and 10 cartons: 2,160 + 320 + 450 = about SAR 2,930.

The cheapest way to ship from Jeddah to Kuwait

  • Shared load: passes Al Qassim and shares the cost
  • Reduce volume: leave out old mattresses and worn particle-board furniture
  • One shipment: instead of scattered batches
  • Book early: before holidays and peak seasons
  • Pack cartons yourself: for clothes and books

On a trip of nearly 1,400 km, sorting before shipping has a bigger effect on the bill, so we advise shipping majlis sets, carpets, good wooden bedrooms and modern appliances, and replacing old mattresses and particle-board furniture in Kuwait.

Who our service suits

Relocating families

A full house with the kitchen and majlis.

People working in Kuwait

Cartons, gifts and single items.

Traders

Goods in full or part loads.

Car owners

Enclosed carriers.

Five steps before the crew arrives

  1. Sort your belongings: and set aside what cannot be shipped
  2. Empty the fridge: and switch it off 6 hours earlier
  3. Photograph the kitchen and appliances: before dismantling
  4. Prepare receiver details: Kuwaiti civil ID and phone number
  5. Book the building permit: in Kuwait

Tips for your new home in Kuwait

  • Electricity and water: activated through the Ministry of Electricity and Water with the tenancy contract and civil ID
  • First-days carton: with essentials and tools
  • Measurements: measure the kitchen and wardrobe spaces in the new home

Car shipping: final export or temporary entry?

Before shipping your car from Jeddah to Kuwait, decide which procedure applies, because the documents differ. Final export is for people relocating who want to register the car at destination; it needs a traffic export certificate and export plates, then inspection and registration there. Temporary entry is for a car needed for a set period and then returned, using a customs transit carnet (triptyque) for a limited time.

Comparison Final export Temporary entry
Suits Relocation A visit or temporary work
Documents Registration, export certificate, export plates, owner ID Registration, driving licence, customs transit carnet
At destination Inspection, registration and local plates Use for a set period, then return
Fees According to destination rules Deposit or guarantee per the carnet
  • Financed car: needs a no-objection letter from the finance provider before export
  • Electric car: shipped with the battery between 30% and 50% and non-essential systems off
  • Inside the car: no personal items or original documents are left inside
  • Shipping on behalf of the owner: an electronic authorisation from the owner is required

E-commerce parcels and samples

For online stores and small businesses in Jeddah we ship parcels and samples to their customers in Kuwait in the shared road load, or by air for urgent orders. We collect from your warehouse, label every parcel with the receiver details and send you proof of delivery. Repeated quantities are treated as commercial goods with an invoice and certificate of origin.

How to choose the right shipping company

Price alone is not enough to judge a shipping company: a shipment held at the border or delivered broken costs more than any price difference. Before booking, check the following:

  1. Commercial registration and licence: for international shipping and transport
  2. Border experience: and filing the Fasah export declaration before departure
  3. A clear price: stating what is included: dismantling, packing, reassembly and fees
  4. A carpenter for dismantling and reassembly: not just movers
  5. Optional insurance: as a percentage of the declared value
  6. Tracking and updates: load photos and notices at the border and on arrival

Return shipping from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia

If you are moving back from Kuwait to Jeddah or any city in the Kingdom, we run the same trip in reverse: a photo survey, dismantling, packing and loading at your address there, then the crossing, delivery and reassembly at your home. Used personal furniture returning with its owner is usually treated as personal effects, provided the packing list is clear and matches the load.

Common mistakes that cost customers

  • Incomplete receiver details: hold the shipment at Al-Salmi
  • Vague carton descriptions: invite a full inspection
  • Understated value: can stop the shipment
  • Prohibited items: such as gas and paints
  • Building permit not ready: postpones delivery
  • Skipping insurance: on valuable furniture

Shipment insurance

Optional insurance, priced as a percentage of the declared value, covers breakage, damage and loss in transit. We recommend it for valuable furniture and appliances, together with photos of your belongings before packing and noting any remark on the delivery report before signing.
