The Saudi Arabia to Bahrain route: distance, crossing and transit time
Every road route from the Kingdom to Bahrain ends at the King Fahd Causeway, the only land link to the island, about 25 km over the Gulf between Khobar and Bahrain. Trucks from every region therefore head to Khobar: directly from the Eastern Province (75 – 200 km), on the Dammam highway from Riyadh (about 470 km), via Riyadh from Al Qassim (about 800 km), and via Riyadh from Jeddah and Makkah (about 1,400 km).
On the causeway both countries’ customs are completed on the middle island, then the truck reaches Manama in about half an hour. So the real transit time depends more on the distance from your city to Khobar than on procedures.
| Mode | Approx. time | Best for | Starts from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared road load | 2 – 6 days | A room, single items, cartons | SAR 45 |
| Dedicated truck | 1 – 5 days | Full household moves, commercial cargo | Depends on truck |
| Enclosed car carrier | 1 – 6 days | Cars | Per vehicle |
| Air | 1 – 2 days | Documents and urgent parcels | By weight |
| Sea via Dammam | 5 – 18 days | Commercial containers | Per container |
Times start on the collection day and include routine border procedures.
What happens on the King Fahd Causeway?
| Stop | Procedure |
|---|---|
| Saudi customs | The Fasah export declaration is matched against the load and exit is stamped |
| Bahraini customs | The packing list, value and receiver details are reviewed |
| Inspection | X-ray of the truck or random opening of a few cartons |
| Release | The truck leaves the causeway for Manama |
The King Fahd Causeway gets congested at weekends and during holidays, so we time trucks for quieter hours wherever they come from and file the Fasah export declaration before departure, so the truck only waits for the actual procedures.
The trip day by day
| Stage | Time |
|---|---|
| Collection, dismantling, packing and loading | 1 – 2 days |
| Your city to the causeway | 1 hour from the Eastern Province to one day from Jeddah |
| Customs of both countries on the causeway | hours to one day |
| Causeway to Manama | about 30 minutes |
| Delivery and reassembly | 1 day |
Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain
We price furniture by cubic metre because a truck fills by volume before weight. Prices include dismantling, packing, loading, transport, delivery and reassembly at destination. The price is confirmed after you send photos of the rooms or after a survey, and does not change after loading as long as the items match the list.
Household move prices by size
| Shipment | Volume | Starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Single bedroom | 6 – 9 m³ | SAR 740 |
| Master bedroom | 10 – 14 m³ | SAR 1,930 |
| Studio or one-bedroom | 8 – 12 m³ | SAR 1,700 |
| Two-bedroom apartment | 16 – 24 m³ | SAR 3,540 |
| Three-bedroom apartment | 25 – 38 m³ | SAR 5,750 |
| Medium villa | 40 – 60 m³ | SAR 9,290 |
| Large villa | 65 – 95 m³ | SAR 14,770 |
Insurance and destination government fees are separate items.
Single item prices
| Item | Starts from |
|---|---|
| Four-door wardrobe | SAR 600 |
| Master bed with mattress | SAR 505 |
| Arabic majlis, 9 pieces | SAR 1,200 |
| European sofa, 7 seats | SAR 920 |
| Dining table with 6 chairs | SAR 600 |
| Fridge or washing machine | SAR 275 |
| Split AC, complete | SAR 230 |
| 65-inch TV | SAR 185 |
| Standard carton | SAR 45 |
The table shows the Kingdom-wide starting average; prices are lower from the Eastern Province and higher from the west, as the city section below shows. Single items carry a minimum invoice, so for more than five large pieces ask for the full-room price.
Seven factors that set the bill
| Factor | Effect | In your control? |
|---|---|---|
| Volume in cubic metres | The biggest effect | Yes, by sorting before shipping |
| Kitchens and majlis sets | Add volume and dismantling time | Partly |
| Truck type | Shared or dedicated | Yes |
| City in Bahrain | Distances inside Bahrain are short | No |
| Floor and lift | Sets the crew size | Partly, by booking the lift |
| Wooden crates | Extra cost for fragile pieces | Yes |
| Season | Holidays are busier | Yes, by booking early |
Furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain
Moving a home to Bahrain starts with a survey or photos of the rooms wherever you are in the Kingdom. A carpenter then dismantles kitchens, wardrobes and beds and numbers every part, packers wrap each piece in layers suited to its material, and the supervisor writes the packing list in front of you before loading. The longer the trip, the more layers of protection and the tighter the load is strapped.

Dismantling by carpenters
Large wardrobes, bedrooms and kitchens are dismantled by carpenters who know the assembly order, not just by movers. Every panel is numbered, and screws and hinges go into numbered bags tied to the piece itself, so the wardrobe goes back together in your new home exactly as it was, with no missing parts or new holes.
Packing guide by material
Wood and lacquer
Moving blanket, then bubble wrap, then cardboard edges.
Majlis and carpets
Numbered bags for cushions; carpets rolled on a core.
Marble and glass
Wooden crates lined with foam.
Appliances
Fridge switched off 6 hours earlier; washer drum locked.
TVs
Double cartons or a dedicated box.
Clothes
Wardrobe cartons that keep clothes hanging.
When is a wooden crate needed?
Standard packing is enough for most furniture, but marble tops, large mirrors, chandeliers, antiques and valuable equipment need a crate built to size, because pressure in the truck or vibration on the road can break them even when well wrapped. We identify these pieces during the survey and price their crates in advance.
Air conditioners and kitchens
A split AC is removed after the gas is pumped down into the outdoor unit, and the pipes are sealed against moisture; it is reinstalled at destination and recharged if needed. Kitchens are photographed before dismantling, cabinets are numbered right to left, and the new kitchen space is measured first, because custom kitchens may not fit without adjustment.
Areas we collect from in the Kingdom
The Eastern Province (Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, Qatif, Jubail and Al Ahsa), Riyadh and Al Kharj, Al Qassim and Hail, Jeddah, Makkah, Taif, Madinah and Yanbu, Tabuk, and Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran. Shipments are consolidated in Riyadh, Dammam or Jeddah before departure.
Dedicated truck or shared load?
| Comparison | Dedicated truck | Shared load |
|---|---|---|
| Transit | 1 – 5 days | 2 – 6 days |
| Cost | Fixed per truck | By your volume |
| Best for | A full house or villa | A room, items or cartons |
Homes above roughly 25 cubic metres are usually cheaper with a dedicated truck; a room, a few items or cartons are cheaper in a shared load that splits the road cost.
Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain
Cars are moved from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain on enclosed carriers with full covers and wheel straps, arriving in 1 – 6 days. We document the car’s condition with photos and the odometer reading at collection, and the receiver signs the condition report on delivery.

- Price: by car type, size and delivery city; we send it once we know the model
- Documents: registration (istimara), owner’s ID, authorisation if shipped by someone else, and the export procedure
- Registration: according to Bahraini traffic and customs requirements
See our car shipping guide from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain for inspection and registration after arrival.
Cartons, gifts and dates
Clothes cartons, gifts and Al Ahsa, Qassim and Madinah dates travel in the shared load; a standard carton starts from SAR 45. Write the receiver’s name and Bahraini number on every carton, keep liquids apart from clothes, and do not overfill cartons so they do not burst when stacked. Commercial quantities of dates need an invoice and a certificate of origin.
Electrical appliances
Bahrain mains voltage is 230 V and sockets are the British type, so appliances from Saudi Arabia usually work with a simple plug adapter. TVs travel in double cartons and removable batteries are taken out.
Commercial shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain
We serve traders and factories in every region of the Kingdom with full or part loads across the causeway to Sitra Industrial, Hidd, Salman Industrial City and Khalifa Bin Salman Port. GCC-origin goods are treated under the GCC customs union rules with a certificate of origin; other goods are subject to the applicable customs duties, and Bahrain applies 10% VAT on taxable goods. Documents: commercial invoice, commercial registration, certificate of origin, packing list and a Fasah export declaration.
We review the item list before loading, because a commercial truck held at the causeway customs over one item that needs prior approval is delayed in full and may incur waiting charges.
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain
Documents and urgent parcels fly from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam airports to Bahrain International Airport in one to two days. For containers, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam connects to Khalifa Bin Salman Port within a few days, while sea freight from Jeddah sails around the peninsula and takes two weeks or more.
| Comparison | Road | Air | Sea |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time | 1 – 6 days | 1 – 2 days | 5 – 18 days |
| Cost | Cheapest for household goods | Highest | For containers |
| Best for | Furniture and cars | Documents and urgent items | Traders |
Air freight is charged by actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, so it suits small, relatively heavy parcels such as documents, permitted personal medicines and small devices, not furniture.
Documents required for shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain

- Sender: national ID or iqama
- Receiver: Bahraini smart card (CPR) or passport and a Bahraini phone number
- Packing list: one clear line per carton and item
- Value declaration: realistic, not understated
- Export declaration: via the Fasah platform
- Traders: invoice, commercial registration and certificate of origin
A vague description such as “household items” invites a full inspection, while a detailed list with carton numbers lets any random check finish in minutes. More in our Saudi Arabia to Bahrain shipping guide.

commercial quantities of medicines, unapproved wireless devices, plants and animals, non-compliant printed material.

We go through the list with you before loading; details in our commercial cargo guide for Bahrain.
Steps to ship from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain
- Send photos: on WhatsApp 0561247112
- Get the price: by volume and delivery city
- Pick a date: for collection
- Dismantling and packing: at your home
- Departure: from your city towards Khobar
- Crossing: both customs posts on the causeway
- Delivery: and reassembly in Bahrain
What happens when your shipment reaches Bahrain?
After release on the causeway the truck reaches Manama in about half an hour, and the supervisor calls the receiver to confirm the time and address. Residential towers in Juffair, Seef, Amwaj Islands and Bahrain Bay usually require a move permit and a goods-lift booking, so arrange both before arrival. The furniture is then unloaded, the carpenter reassembles wardrobes, beds and the kitchen, ACs are installed, every piece is checked in front of you and the delivery report is signed.

| City | Time from Saudi Arabia |
|---|---|
| Manama, Juffair and Seef | 1 – 5 days depending on your city |
| Muharraq and Amwaj | 1 – 5 days depending on your city |
| Riffa and Aali | 1 – 5 days depending on your city |
| Isa Town and Hamad Town | 1 – 6 days depending on your city |
| Sitra and Budaiya | 1 – 6 days depending on your city |
Temporary storage
If your home in Bahrain is not ready yet, we store your belongings in a closed warehouse in the Kingdom on contracts starting from one month, then ship them on the date you choose.
What you may pay in Bahrain besides the shipping price
- VAT: 10% on taxable goods
- Customs duties: on non-GCC-origin goods and commercial quantities
- Causeway toll: on the truck or car
- Insurance: optional, as a percentage of value
Used personal furniture is usually treated as personal effects, and before booking we explain anything that may be due on your shipment so nothing comes as a surprise on arrival.
Shipping prices to Bahrain by city
The price depends on the distance between your city and the King Fahd Causeway: the Eastern Province is closest and cheapest, then Riyadh, then Al Qassim, then Jeddah and Makkah. The table summarises starting prices and times by region:
| Region | Single bedroom from | Two-bedroom apartment from | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dammam, Khobar and Dhahran | SAR 740 | SAR 3,310 | 1 – 3 days |
| Al Ahsa | SAR 1,150 | SAR 3,220 | 1 – 3 days |
| Riyadh | SAR 1,240 | SAR 2,450 | 2 – 4 days |
| Al Qassim | SAR 1,290 | SAR 3,630 | 3 – 5 days |
| Jeddah and Makkah | SAR 1,110 | SAR 3,820 | 4 – 6 days |
For Madinah, Tabuk, Abha and Jazan we send the price once we know the city and volume, based on the nearest consolidation city: Jeddah for Madinah and Tabuk, Riyadh for the south.
Bahrain compared with other Gulf destinations
Bahrain is the closest and easiest Gulf destination from the Kingdom to cross into, because the causeway brings both customs posts together in one place and the road passes through no third country.
| Destination | Crossing | Distance from Dammam | Time from Dammam |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bahrain | King Fahd Causeway | about 75 km | 1 – 3 days |
| Qatar | Salwa – Abu Samra | about 400 km | 2 – 4 days |
| Kuwait | Khafji – Nuwaiseeb | about 430 km | 2 – 4 days |
| UAE | Al Batha – Ghuwaifat | about 800 km | 2 – 4 days |
| Oman | Rub Al Khali – Ramlat Khaylah | about 1,320 km | 3 – 5 days |
Office and equipment shipping to Bahrain
We move offices and companies relocating to Bahrain with their furniture, equipment and files: desks and cabinets are numbered to the new office layout, computers and printers go into padded cartons, file cartons are sealed and logged on the list, and everything is reassembled to the layout so work resumes as fast as possible.
Heavy equipment and industrial machines travel on flatbed or low-bed trucks after their dimensions and weight are surveyed, with advance coordination for crossing the causeway with special loads.
Personal effects or goods? The difference at Bahraini customs
Used furniture and belongings moved with their owner are usually treated as personal effects, provided the packing list is clear and quantities match personal use. New appliances in their boxes and repeated quantities of the same item may be treated as goods and be subject to 10% VAT, or to duties if not of GCC origin.
So we separate used belongings from new purchases on the list and attach an invoice for every new purchase, so the whole shipment is not held over one unexplained appliance.
How the cost is calculated
Start with the room volumes from the price table, add extra items and cartons, then any wooden crates. If the total exceeds the price of a dedicated truck, ask for one instead of the shared load.
The cheapest way to ship from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain
- Shared load: from the consolidation city closest to you
- Reduce volume: leave out old mattresses and worn particle-board furniture
- One shipment: instead of scattered batches
- Book early: before holidays and peak seasons
- Pack cartons yourself: for clothes and books
The shorter the distance to the causeway, the smaller the cost gap between a full and a selective move: Eastern Province residents usually ship the whole house, while from Jeddah and the south sorting before shipping saves a clear amount.

- Book the building permit: in Bahrain
Tips for your new home in Bahrain
- Electricity and water: activated through the Electricity and Water Authority with the tenancy contract and CPR card
- First-days carton: with essentials and tools
- Measurements: measure the kitchen and wardrobe spaces in the new home
Car shipping: final export or temporary entry?
Before shipping your car from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain, decide which procedure applies, because the documents differ. Final export is for people relocating who want to register the car at destination; it needs a traffic export certificate and export plates, then inspection and registration there. Temporary entry is for a car needed for a set period and then returned, using a customs transit carnet (triptyque) for a limited time.
| Comparison | Final export | Temporary entry |
|---|---|---|
| Suits | Relocation | A visit or temporary work |
| Documents | Registration, export certificate, export plates, owner ID | Registration, driving licence, customs transit carnet |
| At destination | Inspection, registration and local plates | Use for a set period, then return |
| Fees | According to destination rules | Deposit or guarantee per the carnet |
- Financed car: needs a no-objection letter from the finance provider before export
- Electric car: shipped with the battery between 30% and 50% and non-essential systems off
- Inside the car: no personal items or original documents are left inside
- Shipping on behalf of the owner: an electronic authorisation from the owner is required
E-commerce parcels and samples
For online stores and small businesses in Saudi Arabia we ship parcels and samples to their customers in Bahrain in the shared road load, or by air for urgent orders. We collect from your warehouse, label every parcel with the receiver details and send you proof of delivery. Repeated quantities are treated as commercial goods with an invoice and certificate of origin.
How to choose the right shipping company
Price alone is not enough to judge a shipping company: a shipment held at the border or delivered broken costs more than any price difference. Before booking, check the following:
- Commercial registration and licence: for international shipping and transport
- Border experience: and filing the Fasah export declaration before departure
- A clear price: stating what is included: dismantling, packing, reassembly and fees
- A carpenter for dismantling and reassembly: not just movers
- Optional insurance: as a percentage of the declared value
- Tracking and updates: load photos and notices at the border and on arrival
In Bahrain, import procedures are completed through the OFOQ system, so we prepare the packing list, value and receiver details to match what the system requires before the truck arrives.
Return shipping from Bahrain to Saudi Arabia
If you are moving back from Bahrain to Saudi Arabia or any city in the Kingdom, we run the same trip in reverse: a photo survey, dismantling, packing and loading at your address there, then the crossing, delivery and reassembly at your home. Used personal furniture returning with its owner is usually treated as personal effects, provided the packing list is clear and matches the load.
Common mistakes that cost customers
- Incomplete receiver details: hold the shipment at the causeway customs
- Vague carton descriptions: invite a full inspection
- Understated value: can stop the shipment
- Prohibited items: such as gas and paints
- Building permit not ready: postpones delivery
- Skipping insurance: on valuable furniture
Shipment insurance
Optional insurance, priced as a percentage of the declared value, covers breakage, damage and loss in transit. We recommend it for valuable furniture and appliances, together with photos of your belongings before packing and noting any remark on the delivery report before signing.
